Also in the email they thanked me for mentioning it on whirlpool.which has me wondering, how did they know I mentioned it on whirlpool? My whirlpool name is nothing like my real name. I'm only new-ish to these forums, can they see my real name another way? No, can't see your real name. BUT, it's not brain surgery to do a google search – and whirlpool rates highly on google even for non tech related topics – to see you have made 3 posts, with one of them at ' posted Wednesday at 5:28 pm', stating 'I just bought 2 cases for it from iicase.'

They just added 2+2 together and hence mentioning it in the email. IF they got it wrong, no harm done to anyone, to me it says they are 'on the ball'.

A lot of tech comapnies 'watch' the forums, especially Whirlpool. So rumours initially said Apple started really early with manufacturing of this iPhone 8 edition (so we assumed Apple learnt something new) Then rumours said constraint (but this is the same thing we have heard every year) but possibly less than a million units of edition at launch.

Now rumours are saying not launching at the same time and might be delayed till October I'm believing this delay because 2 many sites are now reporting it granted from the same source but this late means it's usually a controlled leak But all I can say is Seriously? Do u guys honestly believe they couldn't even get a few 100,000 editions ready? They have these sitting somewhere and then bang all of a sudden the 2 weeks or month difference in shipment timing has fixed this shortage issue. Do u guys honestly believe they couldn't even get a few 100,000 editions ready? I believe Apple have and will continue to manipulate things as they please. I trust Apple to make products that work well, but I certainly don't trust them to be honest or ethical. Like any corporation they exist solely to make money.

If delaying something in order to create more hype or in order to sell more of the lesser item first, they'll do it. Let's also not forget Apple have said nothing yet about any new iPhones. All there has been so far is an invitation for next week. It's all the leaks for the new 8 that has us all excited and expecting it to be released for the 22nd, but there's nothing concrete to suggest that is the case. If anything the trend recently has been Apple announcing items with big delays. AirPods, iMac Pro, HomePod, these are items announced with long waiting times before release.

It would certainly be nothing new then for Apple to announce the new iPhone 8 with a release date being a month or two away. I am not putting a $1500+ phone in a $1 case, just my personal opinion I understand that totally. I purchased it as an exercise in understanding the market. FYI, the cheap thin cases only cost $1 to make, even the name brands. Re that case Pros – raised lip around camera lens.

Cons – NO lip around edge of phone. General It has cut outs instead of buttons.

Very thin plastic Personally, I could buy better cases for $1-3, ones with a lip so wouldn't buy this again. (I use a $12 magnetic 2 leaf wallet case anyway). You can read into their financial disclosure statements to figure out that it is almost certain all new iPhone SKUs will be available for sale in September. They have told investors that they expect revenue for the fourth quarter (which is July-Sep) to be between $47b and $52b. Q4 FY16 delivered them sales of $46.9b and the iPhone 7 launched in that quarter. It seems highly improbable to me that they would forecast revenue growth of up to $3.1b if their flagship iPhone was not going to launch on time. Even if the 7S/7S+ launch on time and the Edition/Pro is delayed, they aren't going to sell enough 7S phones to drive revenue growth when they have told everyone there is an even better phone coming soon. I've been seeing the mock phones on the web and it seems the normal 8 will be larger than the 7.

Can anyone tell me if the 8+ will be larger than the 7+. I'm thinking of trying the plus size model this time but if the 8 is larger unless is some amazing extra features on the plus Rumours suggest no changes to the size of the 8+ compared to the 7+. The iPhone X is said to have the same screen size as the iPhone 7+, but it is smaller (its only slightly bigger than the iPhone 7). Also what colours are predicted? Did I read about a purple?

mac

Not sure where you heard about a purple colour being released, that would be very out of left field. The colours are said to be as follows (all with a black bezel):. Black. Silver. Blush gold. I will go to the X size but never a plus size again, 7 size with bigger screen would of been perfect imo. These have been my thoughts.

I wanted something 'in between' as the Plus is a little too big (physical dimensions, not screen), but I wanted a bigger screen than the base model. The X is perfect. It's not much larger than the base model but the screen is larger than the Plus. This is the most excited I've been about a new iPhone release for some time. I just hope the price doesn't dampen that excitement too much! Anybody looking to get their hands on iPhone 8 will be disappointed as it is not going to be released next week, the delivery will be still close to Xmas.

This is inside information from China manufacturing plant. Only iPhone 7S and Plus will be released earlier.

As I posted previously in this thread, Apple have told the sharemarket that they expect revenue of between $47b and $52b in this quarter (in which September is the last month.) Even on the low end of this forecast, this is growth on the same quarter last year. I cannot see how they could forecast, let alone achieve, revenue growth on the same period last year without the flagship iPhone on sale. I could well be wrong of course; my entire argument is based on the fact that it seems highly improbable that they can grow on LY without the top end iPhone being available but maybe they will prove me wrong.

What's the opinion on iPhone going to OLED displays? I think it's a good decision. Although Samsung displays are the best looking on the market, they still have reported issues with burn in. This is true. While AM/OLED screens look great, they do seem to be quite temperamental in development with potential burn-in issues down the track or different colour temperatures etc. Depends on the quality of the wafer and where on the wafer your screen was cut from. The centre seems to be the best screens with the ones on the outer edge have potential for more issues (lower max brightness, dead pixels, higher potential burn-in etc).

Still though, if you do have an issue with your screen either at launch or a year down the track, I'm sure Apple will repair or replace your device. I wouldn't be too concerned.

Touch ID gone? Have u Read any of the rumours for the last 2 months?!? Anyways, only 1 KGI analyst seems to think we'll see the iPhone X edition (yes it's called that, not X not edition but both) for sale on the 22nd. As much as she's been very reliable in the past, 2 many sources are now saying it'll be delayed. It's going to be a very disappointing launch if so Venya geskin seems to be able to find out prices from an 'inside' source. How that source is unsure about the launch schedule makes me think it's delay is hype creating on Apples part. If it was a manufacturing issue I'm sure this source would know by now.

How long do Apple stores hold pickup orders for? On launch days for new phones you are given a window of a couple of hours to get it, you select it during the order process. If you aren't available, at the end of the day your order is cancelled and stock returned for the next day's reservations again. They are fairly strict during launch times, normally a pickup is reserved for the whole day but can be cancelled even if you are not there during the pickup window timeframe you selected.

That's how I got mine last year, someone didn't pick up their order on day 1 and it was available for reservation the next morning at 8AM for me to get. Wait till Wednesday then come back and apologise or I will if I am wrong and hammer my source, a very reliable source.

What is your 'source' saying? That the iPhone X won't have an AMOLED/OLED screen? I said no may be, it is. There is no guessing.

Which has already been reported – so if it were delayed, you get no kudos because we've already heard this long ago. 'Hey guys, super reliable source (my dad's, uncle's friend's, cleaner's son) works at Foxconn and he's said the new iPhone will be named iPhone X. If I'm right, then hold me up in esteem guys'. On launch days for new phones you are given a window of a couple of hours to get it, you select it during the order process. If you aren't available, at the end of the day your order is cancelled and stock returned for the next day's reservations again.

That's how I got mine last year, someone didn't pick up their order on day 1 and it was available for reservation the next morning at 8AM for me to get. I guess my options are to either try and get it Friday night when I get back to Sydney, or if the system will let me during preorder perhaps I can book the pickup for the day after release?

I could get it delivered to work and get it from the mailroom on Monday, but I'd rather not leave it sitting there all weekend. If correct these updates will be significant. You will be able to point your iPhone 8 at an IKEA catalogue and it will work out the dimensions of the piece of furniture that you want to place in the room. Turn your phone to the room and the piece of furniture will be visible on your phone in exact proportion to its size.

Another technology break through that is rumoured in relation to the iPhone 8 is a non-invasive sugar level blood test. If this is true (in partnership with a third party device) it will take Apple further into the digital health market.

You guys/girls know how that when your doing the pre-order thing via on-line logging in using your Apple ID password you have that two authenticity log in thing where you Apple send you the 6 digit code and location allow on your iPhone for security and it causes delay when your trying to preorder quickly, question, is it best to leave that on or if you turn it off, do you have to answer your secret questions instead? Thought I'd ask as in the past by the time I've received my text etc my pre-order lost the iphone model i was trying to get, but also i guess keep in mind, this only happened when I was trying to use the reserve system, is pre-orders different? Cheers Craig. Does anyone get the feeling that the 'X' model is going to be underdone? Well it will be a normal iPhone but with pretty much all screen (plus the usual enhancements over the previous model).

If they're milking it due to not being able to build enough for it to be the main model (and use 10 years as an excuse) then good on them I guess. People are willing to spend up big (and considering people pay $100 a month on plans for these, what's another $10-$15?). For me, it makes up for the fact that the iPhone has been iterative for the last 3 years. What's so good about this years iPhone according to the leaks and information we already know to be valid and close to being true? For me, it's the size of the phone and screen. The normal iPhone is too small.

The iPhone+ is too big to hold. The iPhone X is that sweet spot in between that actually delivers more screen real estate than the iPhone +. Other than that, you expect updates in technology each year and this year certainly won't be an exception. What makes it any better than existing phones out on the market with current or better technology? It's made by Apple. There is not much new that isn't already available on an existing phone. But not an existing iPhone.;).

In my opinion it's because it's Apple – you get unquestioning support and warranty 'if' something goes wrong, you know it's just going to work as it should, you know you will get software updates with no issues as they are released and I am now willingly locked into iOS and iTunes, once again because it just works for me. I am definitely looking to move up from my 6+.sigh. I'd like to believe all of that. I haven't been able to backup to iCloud for 2 months now and support has been non-existent because they can't actually fix the problem. You're willing to spend almost $2000 on a new iPhone just for the support not because of any 'new' features? No wonder Apple is a billion dollar company. The iPhone 7 Plus is way too big for any pocket.

Really looking forward to the smaller form factor myself. I don't own any shorts, jeans, or work pants that my 7+ doesn't fit easily into. One pair of shorts has smaller pockets so it's not as comfortable a fit.

I'll say that it's too big for some pockets, but not all. Like yourself, I am looking forward to the smaller form factor but keeping the bigger screen, compared to the 4.7' in the 7 which is a similar form factor. I have no issues handling the 7+ I have, but something a bit smaller and easier to handle, without giving up screen real estate can only be good IMO.

Do you want an official announcement from Apple? That's the only way it's going to be official as far as I'm concerned, otherwise it's just meaningless chatter. I doubt anyone will be in tears if it actually is delayed. It's not like there haven't been enough rumours about delays to prompt us to be prepared for it. Some people will be disappointed for sure, others won't care about waiting a few extra weeks. If the phone ends up being as good as it sounds like it will be, everyone that wants one will be happy to wait.

Anyone that doesn't want to wait and buys something else never really wanted the OLED iPhone (other than those that for genuine reasons can't hold out). Developer Steve Troughton Smith now offers a bit more information about the hardware of the new iPhones, including RAM specifications and camera details. As far as RAM goes, Smith says the iPhone 8 will feature 2GB, while the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X will both feature 3GB. For comparison’s sake, the iPhone 7 Plus features 3GB of RAM and the iPhone 7 packs 2GB.

In terms of camera technology, Smith says the iPhone X will feature a 12MP rear-facing camera with support for 4K video at 60 FPS and 1080p video at 240 FPS. As for the front camera, the device packs a 7MP camera with support for 1080p video at 30 FPS. Yeah face scanner is crap. Doesn't work well on the Galaxy and can be duped by a photo. Doubt Apple's implementation will somehow be better, unlesss it can see a 3D scan of your face or something. Probably advisable to do more research before you blast a technology. We have not seen it so first there is no reason to can it out of hand.

Having said that there is a lot we can surmise from the information leaked. It uses 3D scanning technology so a photograph will not trigger it. It is a generation ahead of its nearest competitor so it is impossible to compare it with what is around now. The rumours suggest that it has micro second response times, yes, that is responses in millionths of a second. Rumours also suggest that it is capable of recognising your face lying on a flat surface in front of you.

It also uses IR which is probably to ensure that you are a living being. So before sounding off I suggest that you wait until we know more Wednesday where no doubt we will see it demonstrated. I'll give you guys a hint.

I'll reveal some things that not a lot of people might know, but basically the iPhone X will have a six core A11 fusion chip. This will help the FaceID to work flawlessly because of the six cores.

It appears as if Apple will pack four high performance, or “Mistral,” cores and two battery life efficient “Monsson” cores. Basically the more cores the more processing power and the more processing power means it will be able to detect faces faster than all of the existing face detection technology out at the moment. I'll give you guys a hint.

Are you serious right now? That was posted on 9 to 5 Mac and god knows how many other websites but here you are claiming it like you have some inside info that 'not a lot of people know'. Not a lot of people know except for EVERYONE who is following the developments of the new iPhone.

Before you provide any technical know how?!?! You lifted your technical know how direct from 9 to 5 Mac. Personally I'd rather use the $1800 towards an international flight And I would rather do the opposite lol Mobilemonster is locked in at $860. Worst case $810 Someone is offering me $900. Illl be out of pocket the rest Don't plan on buying on contract. Usually it's hard to get an iPhone on day 1 with Telstra and they are pretty strict on the 1 year exact rule before u can upgrade and I like how with Apple outright If there's an issue with the phone in the first 14 days I get to return and retry but with a provider it automatically goes for a 'repair' Would probably make more sense to do the ultimate plan of $199 and have the X included if anyone was thinking of doing so Sold my Apple Watch already.

Got $1100 for that and that practically pays for the next entry level stainless steel Apple TV 4K I might forgo this year. Iphone has and always will be a luxury, there are much cheaper phones out there, therefore it's a luxury already. It's a luxury in that it's premium and it is well-designed. In my opinion it's not a true luxury good like a Hermes bag or an IWC watch where the exclusivity is part of the appeal.

Apple is now such a mainstream brand that there's no exclusivity in having the new iPhone. It reminds me of a pair of very expensive sneakers. Nice to have, but no one will think of it as a luxury item, and indeed it's often poor/middle class people who splash out the most on these type of items. So what I'm trying to say is, they can price it a little above the rest of the market, as they have always, but if they price it significantly above, I predict lacklustre sales, sort of like what the MacBook Air initially achieved before they pumped up its features and reduced its price a little later on. I love how easy it is to use Touch ID for unlocking certain apps and also using Apple Pay. If face ID doesn't work 100% as smoothly then it would be a deal breaker for me.

Going back to using pin wouldn't be good enough: This is how I am feeling as well. I really think the facial recognition component of this could be both a backward AND a forward step. IF it's optional, works seamlessly, and works in concert with TouchID it will be great. But IF it simply takes the place of TouchID BECAUSE Apple simply could not get TouchID to work from under the glass properly and NEEDED to build some form of.ID into the phone, so ApplePay etc still have a form of security, well that's a backward step to me if it's not at least as smooth, in daily operation, as TouchID. The rumored prices on these soon to be released iPhones have made me start to consider Android for the first time in many years.

IMO anything over 1500 is crazy for my usage which is casual browsing, messages, phone and some snaps. There is not many features on offer on the new phone that excite me. I usually hold on to iPhones for approx 4 years before upgrading but my ip6 has been a disappointment. It freezes all the time and battery is stuffed. The genius says it is all ok. If I need to upgrade more regularly I don't want to spend upward of 1500 each time.

$1800 is cheap. Too many people can afford to pay that and this causes supply issues. Would gladly pay $2,500 if I can walk out with one at 8am on the 22nd as I have at every other launch (though I just paid the RRP because I could order in time).

If I can't get my order in to pick up on release then I will gladly pay whatever lucky idiot is able to get the OLED phone at launch and sell it at a 50% mark-up. I want one day one at 8am (or as close as possible). Money isn't a consideration at these price levels. I just want the phone! An extra 192 GB for $200 or so.

Given that the screen of the X is the most expensive component of the phone and manufactured by Samsung, the note 8 should cost more given it's screen quality is similar but at a larger size and higher resolution As I said earlier the only way I see this working is if the new 4.7 and 5.5 models come in cheaper with the X slightly more expensive than the 5.5 now. If they decide to really push the price up to $1800+ Then how much would the 6.5' model cost next year?!! And if their iPads move to OLED how much would a 12.9 cost?!? OLED is not new technology.

1700 for a phone is crazy! I was reasonably early on the smartphone caper. My third smartphone was a HTC Touch Pro 2 in 2009. It was a Telstra exclusive at the time and was $1500 if bought outright (I bought on a plan!). So in 2017 with inflation, it's not unreasonable for a flagship. (Though compared with iPad Pros it looks a bit steep, I must say!) Oh, and way back late last decade, I remember any old commercial app for a Windows Mobile device like the HTC costing $30. Ahh, the good ol' days.;-).

Edit; again does anyone honestly think a particular colour is a cause of oroduction issues? Seems like hype generating, or are they going to use the same 5S gold shortage reason again that they didn't expect that colour to have such a demand so they only manufactured 100 worldwide Agree, I honestly think it is just Apple trying to hype their products. Saw the same thing with the iPad Pro leather cases. I guess with the Jet Black phone they did use a new method to apply the coating, so that allowed Apple to have an excuse. I wonder what Apple's justification will be for the Blush Gold?. The screen should be uniform and the top part is annoying the hell out of me.

I would have bought it but the design at top could be a deal breaker I dont' see an issue with it. The actual screen space for developers would be the area below the bezel. The bits to the left and right mean that the time and other info can still display even when an app is at 'full screen'.

They should've extended the screen and moved that part up above it, So. They should've made the phone taller?

That just moves the 'issue'. They could've made the screen square – but the weird shape gives developers more room while maintaining the clock and status displays. After a week using the phone, you won't even notice it. With the rumour mill so focused on the X, I am curious to see what the 8+ comes with. I suppose the A11 is a given, but what else? Frankly even the X isn't all that exciting (based on what has leaked) so I don't have high hopes for the 8+ although at least this will still have a home button and touch ID which I am loathe to give up regardless of how good Face ID is.

I am still a big iPhone fan and will upgrade anyway as after reselling my 7+ and salary sacrificing a new one it will be cost neutral so I may as well do it, but the only reason I'll be getting it release day is to ensure I get top dollar from Mobile Monster for my old one. Of course, Apple could surprise us with something they have managed to keep secret. Is there any chance that I can use Mobile Monster to lock in the price (say I request to sell my phone tonight), and then if the iPhone 8 price is ridiculously absurd – I can just back out of selling my iPhone? I've done this before. I 'sold' them my 6S+ to get the 7+, then when there was a delay that meant I wouldn't get one within the 14 days I just sent them an email asking to cancel the order as I wasn't going to receive the replacement in time.

They were fine with that and cancelled the order with no drama. I've since sold another phone through them which went very smoothly. If I had a backup phone I'd sell my 7+ now and pay that off my mobile account, so I'd owe next to nothing when the OLED iPhone was in stock for delivery if I miss out on getting an early order in, which I'm sure I will as I'll be travelling when orders go live. The reason is that the display goes to the top edge. So there is no bezel on any side, just a region at the middle top as the only bezel. I can't believe people are actually asking for there phone to have a black bezel area of nothing, instead of more display. Any way all this talk about iPhone X is irrelevant as only the super rich will buy it at $1200USD and $2000 AUD.

1 or 2 weeks wages unless you are a school kid. If it lasts three years it's only $667 a year. The price difference between that and a Samsung is quite marginal.

Super rich is an exaggeration. The reason is that the display goes to the top edge. So there is no bezel on any side, just a region at the middle top as the only bezel. I can't believe people are actually asking for there phone to have a black bezel area of nothing, instead of more display. This is what i dont understand either.

I think some people are more concerned with phone aesthetics i guess? If this design is the real deal then wouldn't this make the iphone X the highest screen to body ratio? It would blow both the S8+ and Note 8 out of the water i would imagine. I fail to understand how you can rubbish face ID.

The concept is flawed for a device that isn't something you look at much of the time, I can understand it for a computer where you look at the screen. It not released yet, it Unless it can see through material, and see around corners – then it is a flawed unlock compared to the touch id. If it can see through wood or star up at the ceiling and see the reflection of my face – then I'll be the first to yell out 'magic'. Samsung who manufacture the screen, cannot get touch ID to work on their own product. Yep – that's why I said I'd wait until next year to see if touch ID makes a come back.

Assumptions assumptions assumptions You yourself, have quoted in this discussion, 'I'll give you guys a hint. I'll reveal some things that not a lot of people might know,' Now you do realize Apple have not released any official statement about the iPhone specs, So any knowledge we have,is, assumptions, garnered from leaked bits and pieces. From iPhone releases of previous years, we can get close to ASSUMING what the phone will look like, We know what ios11 will include, and no doubt, Apple will have some surprise for us, that no one guessed. Null, your quick to bag people, You come across as spoilt and petulant in many of your posts, and you accuse others of assuming, while you do the same. He concept is flawed Not entirely sure that you have really established that. It sounds more like 'However ever it works I will hate it just because'. You nave not seem it, you have not used it, or even seen it demonstrated or ion action so your judgement is the absolute definition of prejudice.

Unless it can see through material, and see around corners – then it is a flawed Oh yes, I always use my phone around a corner and when hidden from my view. If it can see through wood or star up at the ceiling and see the reflection of my face – then I'll be the first to yell out 'magic' Again, quite realistic scenarios where I would use my phone. From the rumours face ID is unlike anything that has ever been seen before and it is both very much faster, more reliable and more convenient if they are to be believed. If you said – I hate the very idea and nothing you say can convince me otherwise I would be more likely to believe you.

I think the rest of us will reserve our judgement until we have the facts. Will just have a look when I wake up. Excited for the announcement, but after year upon year of apple disappointing me with incremental updates I'm not hopeful. Am really hoping for AOD with notifications, as they are so useful on my S8 and find it annoying I've got to physically press a button on my iPhone 6 to check for any. There's a few software things off also love like location based unlock and a few other things I miss from the S8 when using my 6. Although iOS 11 has added a couple of useful things that the S8 does. Perhaps I'll just replace the 6 with an X and retain the S8 too for the best of both worlds.

I use Newton on Android and its fantastic. Even the free Gmail app is great. The free Gmail app is nothing short of horrendous. Having more than 1 account on it, renders it useless. I have tried about 6+ email apps on Android and all fail after a period.

I have come to the conclusion that there is an inherent problem with Android as the code gets corrupted because its run on so many different phones. Over time there is no quality control and the updates on each app eventually causes issues longer term.

Never would have thought I would prefer a closed system OS, but when you're using the device heavily you want a good performance. To me, the iPhone X seems to be a bit Beta. There should be just 2 models, iPhone X Small and iPhone X Big.

Still having to support the majority of the sales with an updated 2014 design (iPhone 8/8+) just seems like a rushed to market Beta product for the X model. A niche higher priced product. Remember folks, iPhone X is not a replacement for the iPhone 7, that is the iPhone 8 which has NO external design changes to the 2014 iPhone 6 with huge bezels and everything else that goes with a 3 year old design. The X is just a higher priced model that is Verision 1.0. The better sorted version will come in 2018 when all the models move over to iPhone X design and everything is sorted out that they don't need the 3 year old design to piggy back majority of the sales.
