Gorgeous platforming adventure Trine 2: Complete Story is now set to be a PS4 launch title in both North America and Europe. Thus it'll be out tomorrow in North America and on 29th November here. Priced at €16.99 / $19.99, this latest rendition of Trine 2 boasts 1080p visuals, runs at 60 fps, and most excitingly, supports stereoscopic 3D, a first for the platform. This is especially noteworthy as the PS4 doesn't even support 3D movies yet. Trine 2: Complete Story also supports the DualShock 4's touchpad and contains the Goblin Menace expansion pack and a secret unlockable level called the Dwarven Caverns.
14th November 2013. The better-than-director's cut version of side-scrolling puzzle adventure Trine 2 will launch for PlayStation 4, developer Frozenbyte has announced. Trine 2: Complete Story will be available to download from the PlayStation Store at launch, Frozenbyte hopes, or shortly thereafter. It will offer a number of graphical upgrades from previous versions, plus the extra levels and DLC released to date. 1080p HD and 60fps visuals will be accompanied by a stereoscopic 3D mode to show off the game's beautiful backdrops. 28th October 2013.

Multi-platform projects on Wii U have underwhelmed somewhat. Performance is a real issue on some titles (notably Batman: Arkham City and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2), making them less playable than they were before on other systems, even if the core visuals are mostly a match. We concluded that developers may well need to adjust to the Wii U's architectural quirks in order to take proper advantage of the platform, but remain concerned about the lack of CPU power. While Trine 2 may not be a major AAA release worthy of blockbuster coverage, it is a quaint puzzle platformer which is as technically brilliant as it is absorbing to play.
More importantly though, special attention has been paid to the Wii U version of the game: in an interview with NintendoLife, sales and marketing manager Mikael Haveri stated that the Wii U version would not only feature additional graphical upgrades over other console releases, but that neither the 360 or the PS3 were capable of running Trine 2 with the same level of visual polish as the PC and Wii U editions. We also understand that the game's architectural underpinnings favour stronger graphics hardware and that the code is relatively light in terms of its CPU requirement - a good match for Wii U hardware, in other words.

We were intrigued by the prospect of a Wii U launch title taking advantage of the hardware to potentially deliver the definitive console edition and so broke out the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii U versions for Digital Foundry's first full 'produced from scratch' quad-format Face-Off. Let's begin by taking a look at the 360 and Wii U games in our opening head-to-head video, along with an extensive all-formats comparison gallery.
4th December 2012. Trine was a great co-op adventure that too many people worked their way through alone. Multiplayer was only available locally, and Frozenbyte's rather earnest class-based platformer could initially seem a little too complicated to appeal to the drop-in, drop-out couch crowd. Trine 2 doesn't change very much about the basics of the design, but it does take its new campaign online for up to three players. It's easy to jump into, extremely stable (on the PC/Mac version anyway, which is all I've tested) and it's a crucial addition to the game. Suddenly you can blast through this chaotic fantasy universe with friends and strangers alike: improvising, collaborating and fighting over who gets to be the wizard.
Elsewhere, it's pretty much the game it once was, with Frozenbyte's vivid 3D art used to craft a new selection of intricate side-scrolling 2D levels laden with puzzles and combat. The first game's cast has returned, meaning you play while cycling between a brawling knight, a nimble grapple-hook-wielding thief and a wizard who can levitate objects and conjure a series of blocks and planks. They've each got a range of simple new powers to choose between as you level up, too, with skill points adding fire or ice to the thief's arrows, say, or allowing the wizard to chuck enemies around. 20th December 2011.
Leading up to the whirlwind that is, announced that it was set to publish, a sequel to last year's indie darling physics-based platformer. At E3 proper, the published unveiled the game in trailer form (below) and teased a new wrinkle on its predecessor's practically hidden wrinkle: online three-player cooperative functionality Trine 2 will see the return of the, and -all of which will be playable in co-op and are set to be given new powers. Despite the freshness, don't expect a departure. The press materials reassure that Trine 2 is grounded in the foundation of its predecessor. So, do expect the same kind of physics-based puzzles as well as the free-form solving and navigation. Trine was a hip game, for sure.
I hit up the version and managed to enjoy it after unplugging my and USB headset (don't ask). But I also felt like it never came into its own-it never quite pushed the boundaries of its character-swapping. The amount of puzzles that required a heavy and intelligent usage of its core mechanics were too few for me. That said, Trine 2 could totally push the bar. We'll have to see whenever it hits, and play it on whatever platform it comes to. Atlus didn't provide those details. So, here's some screenshots instead: UPDATE: I've made fun of the fact of how nestled away Trine's co-op was before, but I didn't realize it supported more than two players. But Trine 2 will take it online.
Corrected and schooled. Also, according to several other outlets, including, Trine 2 is slated to hit the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3.
